The upcoming smartphone has surfaced on the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) certification database, officially confirming the “Edge 70 Max” branding for the first time and revealing a key charging detail ahead of its expected launch.

Motorola Edge 70 Max: What The WPC Listing Confirms

While certification databases typically reveal limited information, the Motorola Edge 70 Max WPC listing is notably informative. It confirms that the device supports Qi 2.2.1 wireless charging with the Magnetic Power Profile — essentially Qi2 magnetic charging similar to Apple’s MagSafe — at speeds of up to 25W. This makes the Edge 70 Max one of the fastest wireless charging implementations across Motorola’s entire Edge lineup to date.

Notebookcheck, which reviewed the certification filing, pointed out that the phone image included in the listing is likely a placeholder graphic dated 2024 rather than the actual retail design, so renders from the certification should be treated with some caution. Interestingly, this creates a design contradiction: renders leaked earlier this month showed the Edge 70 Max with a completely flat display and flat aluminum-style frames — a significant departure from Motorola’s traditionally curved Edge displays — while some certification imagery suggests the company could still be evaluating a curved-screen version. Until Motorola confirms the final design closer to launch, both possibilities remain in play.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Chipset Expected

Beyond the WPC filing, a wave of leaks over the past two weeks has painted a fairly detailed picture of what the Edge 70 Max will offer. Multiple reports, including from Android Authority and GSMArena, indicate the phone will run on Qualcomm’s non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which features two Oryon Gen 3 Prime cores clocked up to 3.8GHz alongside six Oryon Gen 3 Performance cores running at 3.32GHz. If this holds true, the Edge 70 Max would share its silicon with the Motorola Signature, currently the brand’s most premium device, positioning the Max variant as a genuine flagship-tier performer rather than a typical mid-range Edge phone.

Camera And Design: 50MP Sony Lytia Sensor, MIL-STD 810H Build

Leaked renders point to a triple rear camera system anchored by a 50-megapixel main sensor using a Sony Lytia sensor with optical image stabilization, paired with an ultra-wide lens and a telephoto camera. The device is also tipped to carry MIL-STD 810H military-grade durability certification, suggesting Motorola is pairing flagship performance with rugged build quality.

Color options leaking so far include Onyx Black, Sage Green and Glacier Blue, all expected to carry Pantone-validated finishes consistent with Motorola’s recent design language. Android Authority also reports that the phone could debut a new on-device AI assistant called “Qira,” alongside AI-powered productivity and photo editing tools — a first for the Edge series if it materializes as leaked.

The First ‘Max’ In Motorola’s Edge Lineup

What makes the Edge 70 Max particularly significant is its naming. It would mark the first time Motorola has used the “Max” branding within its Edge 70 family, which already includes the Edge 70 Fusion, Edge 70 Pro and Edge 70 Pro+. Based on everything that has surfaced so far — flagship-grade chipset, premium camera hardware and rugged certification — the Max variant is shaping up to sit at the very top of the Edge 70 series, positioned as Motorola’s answer to premium mid-range competition from Samsung, Vivo and Xiaomi.

What’s Still Unknown

Motorola has not officially confirmed battery capacity, display size, RAM and storage configurations, pricing or a launch date for the Edge 70 Max. Unofficial spec trackers estimate a possible 6.8-inch 2K AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 7,100mAh battery with 90W wired charging, alongside a rumored India price range between ₹54,999 and ₹57,999 — though these figures remain unverified estimates rather than confirmed specifications.
