New Delhi, 22 September 2026 — Google has officially entered the premium laptop market with a brand-new device category called Googlebook, moving beyond Chromebooks to build a platform designed from the ground up around Gemini and Android. Pre-orders for the first five Googlebook laptops — from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo — opened on September 21, with US retail availability beginning October 4, followed by the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia from October 5.

What Exactly Is A Googlebook

Googlebook laptops run on what Google calls Googlebook OS, an operating system built by merging Android’s technology stack with the desktop foundations of ChromeOS. Internally, Google developed this platform under the codename Aluminium OS, and the company has committed to rolling out feature updates and security patches for up to 10 years on every device — a support window that matches or exceeds most Windows and macOS laptops currently on the market.

The core idea behind Googlebook is deeper integration between a user’s Android phone and their laptop. During initial setup, the system can transfer saved Wi-Fi networks, passwords and messages directly from an Android phone using end-to-end encryption, removing much of the friction typically involved in setting up a new laptop. A feature called Continue On lets users pick up tasks started on their phone directly from the laptop’s taskbar, while Cast My Apps allows people to stream and interact with phone apps in a desktop window without needing a separate app version.

Googlebook Price And The Five Launch Models

Pricing for the initial Googlebook lineup starts at $899 (approximately ₹75,000) for the Acer Googlebook 14, positioning it competitively against premium Chromebooks and entry-level MacBook Air configurations. Here’s how the full launch lineup breaks down based on official Google Store listings:

All five launch models ship with a minimum of 16GB of RAM and 256GB to 512GB of storage depending on configuration, with select variants offering up to 32GB RAM and 1TB storage. Every model includes a dedicated NPU rated at over 45 TOPS of on-device AI performance, a backlit keyboard, a fingerprint reader, and Google’s Titan security chip for hardware-level protection.

Every Googlebook purchase bundles 12 months of Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of cloud storage and access to Gemini Advanced tools, along with three-month trials of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop and CapCut, plus a full year of GeForce Now for cloud gaming.

Gemini Features Built Into The Hardware

Beyond software integration, Googlebook introduces a handful of Gemini-specific tools baked directly into the operating system. Magic Pointer lets users bring Gemini’s capabilities directly to on-screen content using the cursor, useful for tasks like organising a calendar entry or translating visible text without switching apps. A feature called Rambler, mapped to a dedicated key beside Quick Insert, converts spoken thoughts into formatted text, automatically organising notes into headers, checklists and action items — including across multiple languages in the same recording.

Create My Widget allows users to describe a desktop widget in plain language and have the system generate a custom, functional widget on the spot. For developers, Googlebook includes Antigravity, an AI agent development platform for building, testing and deploying apps directly on the device.

Security And The Glowbar Design Touch

On security, Google says Googlebook uses the same defence-in-depth architecture as ChromeOS, combining the Titan hardware root of trust with on-device malware detection. A notable first for the laptop category is a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor, which creates an isolated Linux environment with full terminal access — letting developers run Linux tools, clone code repositories and execute autonomous coding agents in a sandboxed space separate from the main OS.

On the design front, Google has revived its Glowbar, a light strip on the laptop’s exterior that illuminates on startup, displays battery charge levels at a glance, and animates during Gemini interactions — a small but distinctive touch that sets Googlebook apart visually from typical Windows and Chromebook designs.

India Availability Still Unconfirmed

As of now, Google has not announced India pricing or availability for Googlebook. The initial rollout is limited to the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia, and the company has given no indication of when or whether the platform will expand to markets like India. Given Google’s historical pattern with premium Pixel hardware, Indian buyers may need to wait several months beyond the initial global rollout before Googlebook officially arrives in local retail channels.
